Move a site to another organisation

A site in the wrong organisation, or a client who wants their own? How a site moves with all its data, and when access to one site is enough.

A site belongs to one organisation, and a domain can only be measured by one organisation at a time (When a limit is reached). There are two ways to change who has a site.

Often enough: give access to one site

A client who only wants to see their own numbers does not need the site in an organisation of their own. Give them access to that site, as admin, editor or reader: they see that site and nothing else of your organisation (Access to one site). The site stays on your plan. Or share a dashboard: a link that shows the numbers without an account, read only.

Move the site with its data

Moving a site from one organisation to another is done by Nvivio support, so the data never has to start over:

  1. Email support@nvivio.com from the address of an owner of the organisation the site is in now.
  2. Name the site (its domain) and the organisation it should go to, with the address of an owner there.

Support moves the site with everything in it: its visits, events and daily totals, its goals, funnels and settings, and its open invitations. People who had access to that site alone keep it. The site keeps its code (NV-…), so the script line on your site stays the same. Every such change is recorded, with who made it and why (Help from Nvivio support).

Good to know before you ask:

  • Retention follows the new plan. If the new organisation’s plan keeps visits and events for a shorter time, the older ones go (Data retention). Export them first if you want to keep them; their daily totals stay.
  • Cookie mode needs a plan that has it. A site in cookie mode cannot move to an organisation on Free; switch it to privacy mode first, or choose a plan with cookie mode there (Privacy and GDPR).
  • From then on the site counts on the new plan: as one of its sites, and with its pageviews and events.

Start over instead

If you do not need the history, delete the site in its Settings › Danger zone (Danger zone) and add the domain again in the other organisation (Add a site). The new site gets a new code, so replace the line on your site.
