AI assistants (MCP)
Read your Nvivio numbers in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP client, with a link to the proof for every answer.
Nvivio has a Model Context Protocol server, so AI assistants can read your numbers. Ask “How did last month go?” or “What does ChatGPT read on my site?” in the assistant you already use, and get your real numbers with a link to check them.
- Address:
https://mcp.nvivio.com/mcp - Read-only. Every tool is one read request to the REST API; nothing can be changed.
- Per organisation. A connection sees the sites of one organisation, nothing else.
- EU. The server runs next to the API and the database in Frankfurt and has no database of its own.
Connect
| App | Where |
|---|---|
| Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app) | Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector › paste the address › Connect |
| ChatGPT | Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced settings › Developer mode on › Create › paste the address, authentication OAuth |
| Claude Code | claude mcp add --transport http nvivio https://mcp.nvivio.com/mcp, then /mcp to sign in |
| Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf | {"mcpServers": {"nvivio": {"url": "https://mcp.nvivio.com/mcp"}}} in mcp.json |
The assistant sends you to Nvivio (/app/connect). You see which app is asking, where the access goes (with a warning when that is an app on your own computer), and choose the organisation. Connect makes a read key for this connection, such as “Claude (MCP)”, which appears under API and AI assistants (/app/api). Revoking it there disconnects the assistant at once.
Clients that can send headers can also use an existing key: Authorization: Bearer nv_….
The API and AI assistants page in the dashboard shows the address and the steps for each app.
Tools
16 tools, each one read request:
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
list_sites |
Your sites. |
get_stats |
The six key figures, with the previous period. |
get_timeseries |
The figures per hour, day, week or month. |
get_breakdown |
The top values of a dimension, such as sources or pages. |
get_story |
The sentence about the period. |
explain_change |
Why the numbers changed. |
get_insights |
What Nvivio noticed, with an action. |
get_ai_overview |
AI assistants and AI crawlers. |
get_bots |
Bots by group. |
list_sessions, get_session |
Visits, and one visit with every step. |
list_goals, list_funnels, get_funnel |
Goals and funnels with their results. |
get_realtime |
Who is online now. |
get_hours |
Visitors per weekday and hour. |
Every answer contains dashboard_url: the page in the dashboard with the same period and filters, so the assistant can link to the proof. The server asks the assistant to take every number as Nvivio gives it, never to estimate or recalculate.
Texts that Nvivio writes (the story, the explanation, errors) come in the language of the question: the lang argument, otherwise ?lang= on the address, otherwise Accept-Language, in the 24 EU languages.
What leaves Nvivio
Only what the assistant asks for, only from that organisation, and it goes to the company behind the assistant under their terms. list_sites never includes IP addresses, the installation code or the bot key.
Limits
Tokens are valid for an hour; a connection stays valid until 90 days after it was last used.
